FRASSAÏ receives a solid 4 stars and "stellar" review in the new Perfumes the Guide 2018 by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez
The Perfumes Guide 2018 by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez is now avialable on Amazon.com. We are truly honored at FRASSAÏ to have our three fragrances: Blondine, Tian Di and Verano Porteño not only included in this exhaustive guide, with wonderful reviews on all three scents. We are also humbled to read the graceful words about the art direction of our founder, Natalia Outeda, and proud to recive the rarely given 4-star rating on all perfumes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
This perfume guide has been released ten years after Luca & Tania released the A-Z Guide. It is the result of an exhaustive and passionate (not always fabulous) review of 1,200 fragrances that were launched in the global fragrance market during the last decade, 2008-2018. As a novelty, it incorporates a much needed coverage of the niche perfume market, that includes us! Although we didn't get around to tally up the star ratings, the authors claim that half of the 1,200 fragrances reviewed, only received one to two star ratings - only 20 out of these got 5.
We are immensely proud to have a solid 4-stars on all three of our scents. Below is a snippet of what Luca Turin thinks about FRASSAÏ and the eaux de parfum in the collection. However, if you are interested in perfume, we highly recommend that you get your copy, sit down in a comfy chair with beverage (and perfume) of choice in hand, and take a leisurely afternoon to enjoy this wonderfully written book. Only available on Kindle for now (although it's readable on your browser and iPhone) - paperback and hardcover coming soon.
"(Natalia) must have been a paragon evaluator and art director, because every one of her fragrances is evidence of someone with a goal, a steady hand at the helm, and a deep understanding of the strengths of her chosen perfumers. For a start, the perfumes smell good all the way, from a sumptuous, heady top note via a solid, beautifully worked out, Lauder-level heart (when will the snobs finally realize Lauder under art director Karyn Khoury was the American Guerlain?), to that rarest of things these days, a really good drydown... all are of stellar quality."
BLONDINE**** "...slowly develops into one of the most interesting orientals in a long time, smooth, rich, devoid of clichés"
TIAN DI**** "what is remarkable about Tian Di, and strongly suggests an ingenious assemblage, is the solidity of the accord (easily twenty-four hours on strip) not budging away from a glorious, slanting-sunlight glow. Great stuff.
VERANO PORTEÑO**** "It turns out a smile can be smelled. I cannot find another way to describe the floral start... this one has a twist that goes beyond those stately creatures (Beyond Paradise, Oscar) ... which gives the top note a flirty lift that first promises to turn heads, then to break hearts.
"Skinlove #tiandi @frassai new fox favourite from sensual jewellery & perfume house founded by Argentine @natalia_ou Fine jewellery must configure a unique relationship with skin in order to succeed, something many jewellers neglect, this connection to flesh, heat and reflection, the mutability of pieces. • • Natalia was born in Buenos Aries, relocating to NYC when she was young before returning to Argentina in 2012. A background in fine fragrance creation and floristry led to the creation of Frassaï and now a trio of fine perfumes launching last year. These are graceful compositions with a sense of luxe architecture to them. Lush trembling #veranoporteño by Rodrigo Flores-Roux is sublime and there is creamy gourmand #blondine by Yann Vasnier who always imparts a flare of 80’s Polaroid to his compositions. • • My favourite is Tian Di, by Olivier Gillotin who made 10 Corso Como, Balenciaga’s Cristobal and Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille. Wow…!!...the dirty smoked peach tea rush at the star is glorious. If it were music I’d loop it endlessly. Underlying this peachiness is a mordancy of chrysanthemums; petals finger-crushed. • • One of my favourite parts of Tian Di is a whisper of vintage cigarettes dipped in peach liquor; this ghost-tobacco perhaps the flow of Tonkin musk through smoke. Whatever it is, before it leaves, it is heavenly. Then a sudden muting, a sense of dust and cracked sandalwood. Delicate peach tea gently brewed with Chinese spices and fumed with incense. Galbanum and orris add mulch and powder to a scent that reaches quietly from earth to heaven. Tian Di lasts for hours on the skin, soft and tremulous, but it is there, almost beyond reach and then you catch it, like a sudden unexpected memory. •"
The lovely Ana @anayelperfume shares her poetic impressions of Tian Di 🌸 #scentedjourney
Founded as a jewel house, in Buenos Aires by Natalia Outeda, frassaï extended its activity by adding a line of candles and, in 2017, three perfumes created in collaboration with perfumers Yann Vasnier, Rodrigo Flores Roux and Olivier Gillotin.
After an intensive testing of their perfume line, which at the moment include Tian Di, Blondine and Verano Porteño, i must say that Tian Di is my very favorite.
"In a garden hidden by clouds, on the mythical Mount Kunlun, Xiwangmu’s peach tree is a cosmic ladder that connects heaven and earth. Once every 3000 years the peaches ripen, and a lavish banquet is held. Offered to deities and royalty alike, it is said that the mere scent of this divine fruit grants immortality. With simple elegance and subdued beauty, Tian Di invites this mystical communion with a ritual in fragrance. Earthy incense, rich green flowers, peach elixir and calming woods culminate to open the mind, purify the body and awaken the spirit."
🍑🍑🍑 go check @frassai other two fragrances Blondine and Verano Porteño. Also keep your noses peeled for any upcoming releases that may or may not have been rumoured. 😏🤐🙊 If I must say so, Verano Porteño is a no brainer. Blind buy it if you like any freshies done by Rodrigo Flores-Roux. He is the perfumer for Verano Porteño and he has a very large resume of hall of fame freshies. From fragrances like Neroli Portofino by @tomford and also @johnvarvatos Artisan Pure. I can highly recommend this house. The noses that the creative director @natalia_ou worked with are very well known and have done so many great fragrances. CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT IS NEXT.
What inspired a fragrance that connects Heaven and Earth?
frag_rants Frassai - Tian Di (2017) PEACHES, incense and sandalwood. That’s what I get here. With some powder from orris. This is very nice for spring. Although it is very versatile and can be worn year round. It does invoke spring to me though. To me this is a very juicy, ripe Peach with incense and sandalwood and iris sitting underneath. All blended together very smoothly! There are some other notes as well. Ginger, red chrysanthemum and olibanum. But I don’t get much of those to my nose. I personally think this fragrance suits a woman and I personally would want to smell it on a woman IMHO but that being said it can very easily be worn by a man because there is a bit of smoke from the Chinese Incense which lends to it being more unisex. I would say though you can’t be afraid of powder notes. It is very well put together, has good sillage(2-3 feet, 3-4 hours depending on temperature), and it lasted about 6-8 hours on my skin and after that it did become very close to the skin. Check out @frassai and click the link in their bio if you’re interested in more information on this and more of there offerings.
"Tian Di, ultimately, captivated me so tenderly & so demurely. Bright & crisp opening, green tannins of Ti Kuan Yin (not listed specifically, yet consistently conjured) uniquely support both zesty floral and leathery elements. Delightful, contemplative, memorable. Remarkable unpretentiousness - no superficial exoticism detected."
Frassaï, a modern jewelry & fragrance house debuted with three creations, and each is essentially representing a particular olfactory chronotope.
Blondine - a character in French fairy tales by Madame D'Aulnoy (available via Google Play for free) and by Comtesse de Ségur, aka Sophie Rostopchine.
Verano Porteño - archetypal summer lushness of Buenos Aires.
Tian Di - heavenly feast, Pantao hui, in the peach garden of Xiwangmu, Queen Mother of the West. Peach is the symbol of immortality & transcendental virtue. Tian Di, ultimately, captivated me so tenderly & so demurely. Bright & crisp opening, green tannins of Ti Kuan Yin (not listed specifically, yet consistently conjured) uniquely support both zesty floral and leathery elements. I can honestly tell you that I had no idea how deeply I was going to be enamored of each Frassaï perfume – until the samples arrived and I dared to commit them to the flesh. Trying to choose a favorite has been agonizing, much like being asked to choose a favorite child. I adore each and every one; that alone might suggest just how unique and marvelous they are. ~ Ida Meister, Senior Editor, CaFleureBon
