FRASSAÏ receives a solid 4 stars and "stellar" review in the new Perfumes the Guide 2018 by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez
The Perfumes Guide 2018 by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez is now avialable on Amazon.com. We are truly honored at FRASSAÏ to have our three fragrances: Blondine, Tian Di and Verano Porteño not only included in this exhaustive guide, with wonderful reviews on all three scents. We are also humbled to read the graceful words about the art direction of our founder, Natalia Outeda, and proud to recive the rarely given 4-star rating on all perfumes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
This perfume guide has been released ten years after Luca & Tania released the A-Z Guide. It is the result of an exhaustive and passionate (not always fabulous) review of 1,200 fragrances that were launched in the global fragrance market during the last decade, 2008-2018. As a novelty, it incorporates a much needed coverage of the niche perfume market, that includes us! Although we didn't get around to tally up the star ratings, the authors claim that half of the 1,200 fragrances reviewed, only received one to two star ratings - only 20 out of these got 5.
We are immensely proud to have a solid 4-stars on all three of our scents. Below is a snippet of what Luca Turin thinks about FRASSAÏ and the eaux de parfum in the collection. However, if you are interested in perfume, we highly recommend that you get your copy, sit down in a comfy chair with beverage (and perfume) of choice in hand, and take a leisurely afternoon to enjoy this wonderfully written book. Only available on Kindle for now (although it's readable on your browser and iPhone) - paperback and hardcover coming soon.
"(Natalia) must have been a paragon evaluator and art director, because every one of her fragrances is evidence of someone with a goal, a steady hand at the helm, and a deep understanding of the strengths of her chosen perfumers. For a start, the perfumes smell good all the way, from a sumptuous, heady top note via a solid, beautifully worked out, Lauder-level heart (when will the snobs finally realize Lauder under art director Karyn Khoury was the American Guerlain?), to that rarest of things these days, a really good drydown... all are of stellar quality."
BLONDINE**** "...slowly develops into one of the most interesting orientals in a long time, smooth, rich, devoid of clichés"
TIAN DI**** "what is remarkable about Tian Di, and strongly suggests an ingenious assemblage, is the solidity of the accord (easily twenty-four hours on strip) not budging away from a glorious, slanting-sunlight glow. Great stuff.
VERANO PORTEÑO**** "It turns out a smile can be smelled. I cannot find another way to describe the floral start... this one has a twist that goes beyond those stately creatures (Beyond Paradise, Oscar) ... which gives the top note a flirty lift that first promises to turn heads, then to break hearts.
ADA Candle by FRASSAI (8.5 oz $60) This candle is so gorgeous; gardenia, jasmine, freesia, white violets, and dewy green leaves. It smells like a lush green floral garden of everything delicate in the world. I love that it does not smell synthetic at all. The founder is also a true joy, you can tell she puts a lot of passion into her brand and products.

BLONDINE She – flowers of spring bloom in this perfume, unexpectedly lavish and oriental. There’s definitely a pear present here, but above all – the most unusual collaboration between white flowers and cocoa, only possible in dreams, or a myth, as they would never grow together in reality. Wonderful and multi-faceted perfume, with ever-changing face.
TIAN DI She – Wonderfun (:D), earthy iris in the opening – carrot and hibiscus seeds anyone? Fresh ginger and galbanum add a vibrant green feel to it, beautifully prolonged by citrusy aspects of olibanum. The peach is so abstract here at first that I find it almost unrecognizable, as if she were wearing a mask – but then in incorporates, gains weight and buttery, celestial texture. Festive and meditative at once, this perfume is my favourite of the three.
VERANO PORTEÑO He – So green! It combines classic green, crispy citrus and woody elements with dash of subtle flowers and aromatic spices. Result is nostalgic, yet somehow full of energy and joy of life – I imagine it really evokes its brief story.
Go behind the scenes as FRASSAÏ founder Natalia Outeda talks about what inspired each of her fragrances, what ingredients are in them and how they are composed.

We were thrilled to be part of the Spring press preview in New York last week.
There's a myriad of scented candles to choose from. So how do you pick the perfect one for you? Here are a few tips that will help you nail your selection.
What does it smell like?
The most important factor when selecting your candle is scent. Start by identifying the fragrances you enjoy. If you're not sure, think of what inspires you. Is it a walk in a garden filled with fresh flowers on a warm summer evening? Then you might enjoy the scent of ADA with notes of gardenia, jasmine, Diamond Star freesia, white violet and dewy green leaves. Or perhaps you prefer the smell of your best friend's leather jacket, with a hint of whisky and creamy vanilla notes, like in MARLENE. Whatever tickles your fancy, begin by identifying your olfactive profile. Take a look at what smells you like to surround yourself with and start playing. It may not be the same for your office as for your home, which takes us to...
What is the occasion?
If your goal is to get lost in a passionate evening, then you might enjoy GUSTAV, with fiery spices and animalic notes that add the perfect amount of sexiness. On the other hand, if fragrance is part of your ritual to disconnect when you get home, then CLIFFORD is your boy. Its smooth suede-like trumpet will transport you with notes of incense and the golden warmth of amber.
If candles are a way to decorate your home, choose a design that matches your maison and lifestyle. You can go minimal chic with white glass or choose a lavish copper vessel like this one, which is sure to make a statement and grab your dinner guests' attention.
Scent can also make you travel far and wide, bringing memories from your past, or better yet, taking you places you've never been to. Think of the dreamy beaches of Brazil where bossa nova sounds mix with guava infused drinks, like in BEBEL. Exotic, right? Let's take a look at ingredients then.
What kind of raw materials are in it?
Not all candles were created equal. Some feature rich ingredients like jasmine absolute, exotic ylang ylang, dark oak, luscious agarwood (read, oud) and suede. Think quality, richness, and luxurious ingredients that are good for your nose. Don't always judge a candle by its cover. Content is always important. Wax composition is also up for consideration. Vegetal blend wax offers an environment-friendly option that is better than paraffin.
Who created the scents?
We are extra proud of our fragrance collection, which was developed with two talented noses, Yann Vasnier and Roxanne Kirkpatrick. They share our vision for excellence and know what it takes to create a great smelling scent. We will be sharing more about our perfumers in the future.
