La fête du muguet #1erMai

FRASSAI

Kate Middleton wedding bouquet

Today we celebrate Labor Day and la fête du muguet.

Muguet, also known as Lily of the Valley, is a delicate and beautifully scented flower that captures the essence of springtime. It was during the Middle Ages that it first traveled from Japan to Europe. Considered a lucky charm, it was offered to King Charles IX the first of May, 1851. It was then that he decided to offer it to the ladies of the court every 1st of May. A tradition was born.

Fast-track to 1886, the labor movement is sparked in Chicago, demanding an 8-hour work week and better labor conditions. It would take 30 years for France to catch on. In 1919, the 8-hour work week is finally ratified by the Senate and May 1st is chosen to celebrate.

Moving beyond labor history, it is worth noting that Muguet has been a significant source of inspiration for perfumers and jewelers alike. From Dior to Lalique, muguet has inspired and captured many hearts.

Muguet harvest: This bell-shaped flower is picked by hand. First harvest is in May.

We hand-picked some of our favorite Muguet objects for you, hoping it will bring good fortune too.

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

FRASSAI

Do you have a weekend ritual? We find that Friday sets the mood for the weekend ahead. It's a good opportunity to stop and contemplate, leave some things on our list aside for next week...

Burning traditional incense and lighting a candle can get us to that desired place. The incense we are burning now was brought back from a temple in Beijing, China and blends beautifully with our most spiritual scented candle: CLIFFORD, in honor to American jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown

Clifford Brown amazed his peers with his ability to blend technique with emotion to create a rich, full sound that earned him praise as the "preeminent trumpeter." (Source: Biography.com)

Sacred resins and noble woods burn while swirls of smoke elevate towards high heavens in homage to the deities of jazz. The golden warmth of amber and suede pair with the subtle smoky scent of incense and a touch of spicy saffron

Fragrance Notes: saffron, incense, elemi, oakmoss, suede

This highly luxurious candle was created in collaboration with perfumer Roxanne Kirkpatrick and is available here
